Teaching recordings & privacy

We learn from the lesson.
Not from your body.

In a small number of private tutoring sessions, tutors and students can choose to contribute a recording to help Margin become a better teaching tool. It is always optional, specific, and agreed to before recording begins.

Permission comes first

A real choice for everyone in the room.

01

Everyone says yes

The tutor and student are told what will be recorded and how it may be used. For a minor, we also require parent or guardian permission when needed.

02

Recording stays visible

A clear indicator shows when recording is active. Anyone can ask to pause or stop it at any point.

03

No changes if you decline

Saying no does not affect access to the lesson, the tutor, or Margin. The session simply continues without a contribution.

What helps us improve

The teaching—not the identity.

We care about the instructional exchange: the question a student asks, the hint a tutor gives, and the explanation that makes an idea click.

Before lesson material is used for improvement, we remove names and other identifying details wherever possible. The permission request says whether the proposed use includes human review, product evaluation, or model training—agreement to one purpose does not silently become agreement to another.

What we may use

  • Questions and explanations
  • Teaching strategies and hints
  • De-identified lesson transcripts
  • Feedback on what was helpful

What we do not do

  • Identify people by face or voice
  • Create biometric or body profiles
  • Infer emotions from appearance or voice
  • Sell recordings or use them for ads
After the lesson

A short, understandable data path.

1Record with permissionOnly after required participants agree.
2Remove identifiersNames and personal details are filtered wherever possible.
3Use only as describedFor the purposes shown in the consent request.
4Delete on scheduleThe retention period is disclosed before recording.

Changed your mind?

Ask us about a recording, withdraw permission for future use, or request deletion. We will explain what can be removed based on where the material is in this process.

The plain-English version
“No hidden recording. No penalty for saying no. No face, body, or voice profiling. If a lesson helps improve Margin, everyone knows what they are contributing and why.”

This page describes optional research and improvement recordings. Margin’s everyday Circle-to-Ask feature does not continuously watch or record your screen.
